Absolutely. They had opportuninty after opportuninity to pursue a different path and they did not (two impeachments to hide behind for Christ's sake). The reason? Cowardice? Ineptitude? Pitiful lack of imagination? -- most likely a combination of all three.

Republicans are so in the moment. So divorced from both history and future that they have no time for thought of where they are. Caren you are giving them way too much credit.

The danger on the Democratic side is that there are too few checks on reality from a dysfunctional opposition that's out to lunch. That's a big problem for America and Democrats (your friend Nancy was well aware of this vulnerability).
