Yulia, Putin invaded Georgia, Crimea, and Ukraine before this assault on Ukraine. He has threatened an invasion of Moldova and created a separatist portion in that country. Lukashenko's Belarus has become beholden to Putin. Finland and Sweden are about to join NATO solely because of the Putin threat. This is extraordinary for countries previously having independent securities.

Putin is essentially a mob boss. He subjugates those around him to pay rent to him. Those who wish to break from this arrangement (like Ukraine) will be first threatened and killed if they don't comply.
