Your right John, there is normal everywhere.

Until normal is upset (like by a pandemic or war), changes are not easily made. If it isn't broken then why fix it kind of attitude.

Three things break us away from normal -- GREAT IDEAS, FANTASTIC SALESMANSHIP and BEAUTIFUL TIMING (as the audience has to be ready).

The Beatles hit the jackpot, as David Brooks NYT (a month or two back) captured in a great article about audiences being ready.

Woodrow Wilson had the great idea, even the timing (perhaps not quite) but was a lousy salesperson. It took another war and America to bring about the United Nations.

Andrew Yang had his "Freedom Dividend" idea and he was terrific at selling it. A basic income has not yet happened but could well come about thanks to Yang.
