Yes. Victoria, the UK is no extension of America. There are parallels, though -- certainly politically: Thatcher and Reagan, Blaire and Clinton, Johnson and Trump. Also in pop culture and even food and wine. Both challenged continental Europe.

Marketing and finance are keystones of the economies in both countries.

One significant difference is that Americans don't understand irony, whereas the Brits delight in it, something I miss living in the U.S. But then I am from New Zealand, an extension of the UK as a child.
