We still have the tariffs on Chinese goods that have been carried over from the Donald years. They continue to cost American households an average of around $400 each year (more than the average increased expenditure on gas).

Perhaps a bigger example of your subject.

New Zealand in the 1960s lost it's access to the British market with its dairy products and lamb because the UK joined the European Community. It took New Zealand twenty years of very hard work to replace that lost market (mainly with Japan). It was a case study that warranted more attention at the time by those in the UK voting for Brexit.
