Yes Robert you’re right — and motor racing too. The Concorde and XJ12’s were final attempts to maintain UK’s position but were economic disasters (Did you ever own an XKE? — absolute nightmare). It was the 70’s when the economy headed completely south under Sir Heath and the return of Harold Wilson (as if his first time failed to be bad enough). The nationalization and protection of industries, labor and management scrumming as well as producing dreadful cars. It wasn’t until Thatcher shook things up and moved Britain into a new place in the world. Tony Blair continued what she couldn’t do. Unfortunately now a backslide to God knows where.
