Yes Ranjit Rees-Sidhu, a lot of money wasted for sure.

But these things don't have to all or nothing. Americans (bless them) like everything simple --YES or NO, IN or OUT and reality doesn't work like that.

Because we had spent a fortune didn't mean we had to cut and run. Also it doesn't mean that the expenses now cease -- they may simply shift to the cost of managing a new situation of hunger, refugees and quite possibably new violence within Afghanistan. There is always a cost of unknown versus known. Dangerous groups around the world now have new energy to do harm because of our surrender in Afghanistan (done originally by Trump and Pompeo and then followed through by Biden.

The imperfect situation in Afghanistan (for Americans) had moved from a "war" with little loss of life and to a cost we could well afford and we had NATO doing their bit. Small but signiifcant achievements were made such as many Afghans (particularly women and youths) enjoyed much better lives than 20 years ago. Those gems have now been chucked. And chucked because of first a buffoon President followed by a pig-headed one who sided with popular sentiments on foreign policy as opposed to advice of intelligence (even if our intelligence is flawed it's a hell of lot more reliable than Bob's on the street).

The only folk cellebrating this moment in U.S. history are Americans and our foes. Please notice there are no cheers from Europe, Japan or Taiwan.
