We have to keep our antennas out for in-the-moment opportunities. One is now.

In a macabre way, Hamas taking hostages has been a blessing. It has put brakes on possibly the annihilation of Gaza. The exchange of captives has had an empathetic response within the Israeli population. It now questions resuming the war to what ends.

Bigger than that, it may be questions the Israeli Administration's stated goal of eliminating Hamas, which was always an impossible reach. As hideous as this outfit is, dealing with it (as successfully as it has over the last few days) and moving into a political form and away from the militarily combative.
