Yash Rajpal, thoughtful article and an understandable reaction. Sanctions and cutting off cutting U.S. and foreign money in a place like Afghanistan is not going to have much clout because their other revenues are huge in comparason (there's a good Op-ed in today's 8/19 NYT about this).

It's counterintuitive but I recommend immediate recognition of the new government and get as close to this regime as we possibly can with embassy etc and generally position ourselves to know their thinking and what's going on. That will add to our security here in the U.S. -- the old proverb "be even closer to your enemies".
