Vinay Mehta, I not sure if it's quite as simple as you present.

Some in China are probably doing a lot of thinking as how to move forward. An alliance with Russia has limited benefits. Trade with Europe, America, Japan and Australasia are many times more valuable than with a deminished country with an economy on a par with Spain.

As for winners? The big ones so far are Zelenskyy and the Ukrainian people, the U.S., Europe and democratic countries as well as those aspiring to be all around the globe. There's a good chance that Ukraine comes out of this with a new start away from the subjugation of its big neighbor. NATO is obviously stengthened. Putin's actions have given the Baltic countries as well as Finland and Sweden a more realistic view of their security vulnerabilities and the will to strengthen their defenses.

Even the Russian people could eventually get a new start from this. Although just how that may happen is very unclear.

Taiwan could get the jolt it badly needed to seriously begin defending itself from a potential attack from China.

There has been a tragic loss of life brought about by one man, Putin. He wanted his Russia and the world to see him as a conquering hero. This hasn't happened.

While there are clear winners and many opportunities to emerge better than before this awful war. Should they all be seen and grabbed is still in process. But the real loser is Putin.

Many thanks.
