Very good Katharine.

Apart from a few total kooks, talk of arming teachers is a distraction from any serious discussion on guns.

Unfortunately we are deep in tribal territory in which belonging resides over evidence and understanding. Shouting and pleading from Washington is is pretty much ineffective.

There is more chance for change at the local level. Individual towns across the country could rise to the occasion. Some states have made progress.

Referring to "Gun Control" (used still by some Democrats) is a complete non starter. "Safe use of guns" is better. Moving the subject into health of family, community, etc. may help.

The big casualty with guns is suicide. And, lowering the risks of suicidebecause of the immediacy of guns is something that many families could buy into.
