Thoughtful article Calum. What is apparent is a feeling of disappointment and longing. Kind of like a child who discovers that their parent is not all they thought them to be. These have been common sentiments with interested parties all around the world.

It's too easy to blame Donald as we are all responsible for our American downslide. There is a despair in the US that has increased -- an unhappiness born mainly because of visible huge desparities of income. The anger of which is expressed in rejection not just of government and public institutions but of science and reason, manners and dialogue.

The good news is that ways can be forged to move us out of this malaise but it will take confronting and correcting some fundermental issues.

I wote a couple of pieces talking about possible ways to move forward. "Donald and Corona -- Let's Make Them Work for Us" and "Happiness and Wealth -- It Takes Two to Tango". Both here on MEDIUM. Would welcome your comments.
