Thoughtful and heartfelt article Tessa Schlesinger.

I'm not sure if "capitalism" is the real villian here -- or at all. Capitalism is simply the flow of money, goods and services and people (when we allow migration). It's trade. And, it's because of trade along with innovation and investment that we are as wealthy as we are. Without this you and I would not be tapping away on our laptops using the internet.

Many of the problems that you talk about arise when competition is suppressed and then a few folks make more money than they otherwise would -- eg. Bill Gates because Microsoft had a monopoly on computer opperating systems and Jeff Bezos because Amazon so dominates retail.

Where we need to be zelous (and we are not) is in anti-trust laws that need to be really beefed up. Many of the existing ones are not applied -- or way too late.

The issue of fairness of opportunity that you highlight is most valid and needs addressing more comprehensively through perhaps a Yang type UBI.

I wrote "Happiness and Wealth -- it Takes Two to Tango" and "Wings to Fly -- a Platform for All" published by Hearst but also here on MEDIUM. I would welcome your comments.
