This may be well-intentioned but does NOTHING to address affordable housing.

It doesn't matter who owns the real estate. Corporate investor speculation has become a popular distraction to a serious issue.

A few things can be done to make housing more available:

Remove ALL subsidies to housing, such as federally backed mortgage rates, tax deductions on interest, etc.

Completely rethink housing/shelter away from the traditional "American Dream." The way we build housing is archaic. Living units can be made in factories, perhaps in China. This NEW and highly designed living can be sold to the top end of the market (like Tesla) to become fashionable for others to follow.

The housing crises reinforced the case for an American Base Income, which would correct much of the housing concerns and food insecurity. Suggesting Senator Jeff Merkley champion this would be more worthwhile than the other nonsense.

Many thanks. Passionate article but the wrong end of the stick.

Best.
