This is an interesting point.

That prompts that the "training" aspect of schools be achieved over time as needed and doesn't necessarily have to be at universities at all.

We confuse academic with training and even if we don't separate them we should understand the difference.

I went to the School of Architecture at the University of Auckland, New Zealand. And, although it was a professional degree, remarkably little was specific training for the job. I learnt what architecture was in raw elements in a big, expansive picture. That learning has taken me into fashion design, furniture design, painting, illustration and, at a stretch, maybe even writing.
