The war has changed with the statements of the American Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin.

The mission he declared of dramatically weakening Russia is possibly more that is beneficial in the long run but fine for now. The obedience to law is more important. Meaning ousting Russia from all of Ukraine and elsewhere where it is interfering with the integrity of independent nations.

Are the Ukrainian forces, with all the supplies from the West, able to ouse Putin from their Ukraine? Should there be doubt of this capability, then NATO needs to to be fully engaged with all its capability immediately.

We should have done this early on but it was impossible. American deposits in the trust bank account for such actions were pretty low having been spent on the much lower priorities of Afghanistan and Iraq. The additional factor was the Ukrainians themselves. We needed to know that they would fight like hell for their own country. They have unquestionably.
