The U.S. has been moving towards a social democratic system what with beafing up family benefits and the relief packages paid through the pandemic -- some of which will remain.
We waste way too much talent in the U.S. because it's not nurtured and developed (Heather McGhee's book "The Sum of Us". More spending directly into pockets of individuals and families can move us along -- some kind of base income plan.
This is (up front) enormously expensive and actually has to be paid for. This can be achieved by a marriage of capitalism with socialism. A deal if you like between being freer to invent and make money, and investing and spending on the social needs for future human capital.
Many thanks
