The two are not quite the same. The meat packers have a lot of control over the market where the oil companies operate essentially in an open and international market. The U.S. oil suppliers having been restricted from exporting petroleum produced in the U.S. have made the U.S. price artificially low.

Farmers I believe are creating their own cooperative packing plants which should mean more profit for them.
