The Perils of Introducing the Political
I took off into my well practiced speech and was soon climbing high in the sky. Articulating and intoning while dotting the political for colorful and humorous attention. I was in full flight and all as well. That is, until I encountered some turbulence. Turbulence in the form of screeching chairs and people getting up and leaving. Now, you would think these leavers may quietly filter from the room and allow the rest of the audience to remain intact. But, no they don’t! They rise and exit in loud HUFFS! What makes it worse is that these rogue elements, these Benedict Arnold’s, are particularly proficient at mustering sympathy from others.
“We all know Sheldon is so sensitive to the political”
“Will Mary and Frank be able to get home?”
“Is Frank safe to drive?”
“Will Mary EVER recover?”
Recover? Recover? What about MY Recovery? I am in FULL FLIGHT! Mary has her feet on the ground!
I have since modified my speech where I carefully slip in the political right at the very end. AHA! In so doing, people don’t have time to formulate their reactions, and they don’t have time to leave!
This allows me to proceed to a soft and successful landing.
