The Democrats Are Masters at Making Nothing from Something

There is a huge window for Democrats to do something helpful for the American people. The problem is that they just can’t see it because of the walls they have built around themselves (Donald Trump, apparently does not have a freehold on this behavior). Opportunities in our faces are about to be squandered, as opposed to being accepted graciously and built upon. I am referring to the idea put forward by Mitt Romney and Steven Mnuchin of sending checks of $1000 to every adult (and half the amount for children). Originally it was Andrew Yang’s Universal Basic Income and squarely in the Democrat’s camp.

By seizing the moment and promoting a doubling of the payout, the Democrats can scoop the idea back to their side.

The fact that a number of Republicans are already on board (including some in the White House — and you know who) makes this task very possible. Also, a success here for the American people (let’s not forget that), would be helpful for Democrats to pass future legislation of their liking. Now is not the time for churlishness. Nor is it a time for shoving other agendas into the immediate pandemic crisis relief package. This in effect amounts to holding people (who urgently need this assistance) hostage to the career agendas of Washington legislators. Relief on student loan debt, carbon tax on airlines, solar…
