The Coronavirus and Our Magnificent Machine
Our status as a healthy nation has been on the skids for some time. While many negative aspects have accelerated under our friend Donald, we have to go back further to figure what the hell went wrong? We were doing so well after all — weren’t we? Some understanding, and general coming to grips are required now, so that the right fixes can be reckoned and applied.
We have benefited enormously by our open shop to the world. I mean buying and selling goodies from all over, and exchanging people too — folks that know how to do stuff or have lots of brawn. Amazing prosperity has prevailed and will continue to do so, but only should we let it. We always had squeaking coming from this magnificent all powerful engine, and we pretended not to hear it. The squeaking is now a clanging and hurting our ears. It is forcing us to slow down the engine or shut it down in parts or even completely. This will not be good for us — nor anyone. It doesn’t have to be like this — we can have our cake and eat it too!
But you ask, “What is this threatening disturbance and disruptor of our glorious machine?” Well, it’s people — the people who are suffering in the wake of the majority moving forward and whose talents, skills and labors are not wanted anymore (or at least not in their current forms).
