The ban on evictions sounded fine but was a poor policy for the reasons Max Rottersman points out. Better to have had just the direct checks to households but unfortunately the flow of these was interrupted. Going forward now is a problem as you make clear but the solution needs to be moved into something sustainable like a basic income deal -- and not just for renters.
