Buttigieg is a tough cookie and could deal with slings from the right (more arrows would come from the Sanders/Warren crowd, but Bernie could temper them).

Whitmer will unlikely give up her successful governorship to become Biden's understudy. Booker has appeal but needs to be in the Buttigieg category. Klobuchar is an excellent soldier, but her sexiness is one notch above Biden's.

The new VP nominee would have to communicate for Biden brilliantly and make up for his lackluster performances (or absence of them).

It would be an enormous challenge for Buttigieg, but if Biden could convince him to take the job.

Buttigieg would present an American future that voters would notice. Harris was always misplaced.
