The complete lifting of all trade barriers, as with any market system, has to have gard rails of strong and enforcable antitrust laws (and a revision of patent laws) otherwise cornering of markets and supplies would happen as you point out. It would take constant vigilance to keep it open and working harmoniously. Jimmy Carter deregulating the airline industry did wonders for popular air travel, although more recently has slipped back into monopolistic practices and these need sweeping clean.
