We should have seen this coming and been on top of it from the outset. Sadly it reflects a lack of American engagement (and understanding) in the world which was exacerbated in the previous administration.

It's as if we are locked into the here and any long term games is unimportant. The recent NYT articles on Cobalt and Congo point to this dangerous lack of attention.

We show a dreadful lack of interest in the world. Apart from a Biden show down with China which will consume popular attention. Unfortunately our course of action there is heading for a blunder that would make the Lopez Obrador one look miniscule.
