Shankar, we can have capitalism and also spread things around. The rich countries currently do this. But the American model is outdated and as a result we are lagging in competitiveness with the rest of the world.

We absolutely need to maintain (and beef-up) our engines of prosperity -- they being innovation, trade and immigration (these are all under attack from the left and the right). Simultaneously we need to invest much more in ALL people and not just a privileged or lucky few.
