Austerity? maybe more selfishness (and to own person as well as others). And, not considering the future. Trump is the epitome of that -- always in the moment. History and future have little relevance. His world being a see-saw with someone having to go down if he is to go up.

We wouldn't actually build anything. Build anything beyond what can be done with one pair of hands without the help and cooperation of others. It's the reason (as you point out) we have marriage. Also, partnerships, practices, corporations. The reason we have communities, towns, cities and nations.

All this is not totally selfless. In fact looking after oneself is all important and investment in others around one pays off.
