Possibly because of the size and diversity of America, subjects are framed in terms of "absolutes" and that has its problems. Also that Roe v. Wade at the time was a bit of a reach. And hence the abortion issue was never really placed in a position that a good chuck of the population could let it be. We have achieved that position since however. And the Republicans are playing a dangerous game for themselves and a very destructive one for many people's lives.

I am fully behind the argument that women have the say over their own lives. I recognize also the position that people may believe that abortion is wrong but that alone is NOT incompatible with abortion being legal for a host of very good reasons including health and public safety.

Many thanks Caren. One of your strongest articles.
