Pat, I think the federal government has a role. Supplying money is the big one. There is a reason we have states because it's a big diverse place. Same as Europe. No one in Europe is advocating a EU centralized healthcare system to my knowledge. Good healthcare is achieved by each doing what is best for them. Is our system broken here? Yes. All are not covered, we spend twice as much (as other rich countries) and die earlier.

Rather than go with a national system (the Bernie approach which I think would be enormously cumbersome) I suggest we put money into all people's pockets and allow individuals and families to spend how they wish. Like car insurance a minimum can be set and mandated either by state or the federal.
