Your raising of exactly who was the monkey and who the organ grinder is something that has been often overlooked because of the "fascination" with Donald.

I agree with you that Trump makes a lousy polititian and McConnell a clever one (although has resides over a diminished and diminshing Republican party). A smart Donald could have taken credit for the first stimulus package and championed a second. And, yes it's possible he could have won on that.

What we don't want is a "clever" to appear from the wings -- not out of the question going forward.
