Nice piece Cailian.

It's often forgotten that Britain up until George V (1860s) owned territory within modern day Germany. The Electorate of Hanover came as baggage with their adopted King George I. Although the early Georges were keen on maintaining the territory others in the UK thought it more a liability than an asset. I think George III or IV went to lengths trying to establish a military alliance with Russia to help defend it. Catherine the Great never really warmed to the idea. She had more ambitious plans and alliances in mind.

Great stuff. Many thanks.
