While the Queen has worked hard and been certainly valuable, she is yet another example of holding onto power beyond time. A belief that only they can do the job. History is replete with such great people who don't know when to move on. They are usually accommodated by a complacent audience failing to tell them to please leave the stage. Winston Churchill, FDR and Joe Biden are all examples.

Monarchies don't offer much choice as to who will follow. Charles is decent and could have begun the job decades ago. He will still slide into the position. But he is now old and a vitality and "who knows" opportunity was missed. Quite possibly because of the selfishness of an old Queen.
