Mike Weisser, it would be unhealthy for Democrats to settle into this complacency. They would be wise to convince themselves that the Republican opposition is formidable.
If DeSantos (or some other) is the Republican opponent for the precedency in 2024, this would encourage Democrats to get their act together.
Currently they kind of have Biden and Harris lined up to compete. The problem is that both are well qualified to lose.
Biden was the default candidate President in the 2020 race and in more normal circumstances he very likely would not have won. Unfortunate the VP Biden chose, Kamala Harris, has not demonstrated any political savvy. We need to be reminded that they were both awful on the campaign trail for the nomination: Biden had to resuscitated from Van Jones's pretty accurate description "dead man walking" and Harris didn't even make it to Iowa because of general lack of appeal and a campaign grossly mismanaged.
Fortunately, there is growing anxiety over what we have -- or rather, not have. Hence Hillary Clinton has been pulled from the archives to be looked at once again (obviously not to be serious).
Nothing overt can be done before this years midterms. But certainly after that we need to find a candidate with a chance of actually winning and regardless of who happens to be running on the other side.
Many thanks
