Also, messages need to be delivered locally and not simply megaphoned from Washington. Unfortunately, the Democratic Party over the years retreated from smaller cities, towns and rural America where it was more difficult to win elections. People who were once supporters felt abandoned and went with Republicans. Republicans did little for them (they are mostly the poorest states). But a relationship is better than none at all.
