Michele Ramarini, I think we have to be very careful and skilful in our competition with China. Get it into sport and not war. My short article I invite you to read "A Wall Between Us and China Is Just Not the Answer".

I wish I had your confidence in Biden. He is no foreign policy guru (and doesn't listen to his own Secretary of State or bother with our European alies). He (and his bone head) can lead the U.S. and Australia into very costly trouble. The deal with Australia can be OK --even helpful, but only if it is one part in a much bigger picture. It's counterintuitive, but we should be embracing our competitor, China, and not continuing to build a wall between us. Unfortunately Biden is following his predecessor and doing the latter. This can lead to a dangerous confrontation with China that will cost (is already) both our countries.

Appeasement is not what I'm suggesting. The U.S. has to remain militarily strong and place it wisely (a word I have never associated with Biden) along with our political acumen.

I'm glad you pointed to the NYT article and that Australia can be "left out to dry" just like Afghanistan and Syria. Australians need to be crystal clear that the U.S. is NOT going to get into a military confrontation with China over Taiwan for starters.

Many thanks for your article.
