Max Rottersman, Biden calling Putin is unfortunately not going to end the war.

The one person who could have an impact on Putin is Xi Jinping. Some deft diplomatic effort should be made with China. But that has been made more difficult by the wall being built between the U.S. and China. It was a dreadful mistake that Biden did not attend Xi Jinping's Winter Olympics. America delivered the leader of China both a snub and the single audience of Vladimir Putin.

Putin is essentially a mobster. He wanted Ukraine in a subservient position and paying rent. When Ukraine said no then Putin had to punish it. All the other stuff of mother Russia, history and advances of NATO are quite possibly secondary (the UK doesn't invade India or New Zealand because it once ruled them).

Ukraine was not about to become part of NATO anytime soon and was no threat to Russia.
