Agreed, diplomacy is preferable. Unfortunately Putin can't be talked into leaving Ukraine anymore than talked out of invading Ukraine. Putin understands force and will not negotiate anything seriously until he is stopped and pushed back .

I see it as practical rather than moral. Any accommodation of Putin's aggression will result in more aggression. The future of Ukraine is obviously at stake but the wider implications are defining to put it mildly.
