I don't have a clear explanation for the poor attention to readers, but the consequences are that precious customers are lost and that Medium could crumble.

I thoroughly enjoy exchanges with writers -- agreeing and disagreeing with their thinking. I'm delighted when they read my pieces.

The platform introduced a change that new publishers must be subscribers. This should encourage writers to be also readers.
