Maddisson, now the war in Ukraine is certainly a distraction from climate. Who knows how it will affect the longer term.

A negative consequence can be further compartmentalization of the world and retreat from globalization making economies less efficient and not as robust. Important because we need all the strength of our (particularly rich world) economies for the R&D and to generally get us from A to B.

The R&D of nuclear energy in many places including the U.S. was unfortunately put on hold in recent decades largely because of the fear you point out. This needs to quickly get moving because nuclear is logically the best means of bridging a gap to a replacement not yet invented.
