Libby Winker,
It's possible Republicans can morph into a NEW Republican Party before 2028. It can be prompted by Trump losing this election and Harris having a poor to mediocre one-term presidency (unfortunately, all too likely).
Excellent leadership would need to emerge from the Republican side. It could champion issues traditionally associated with Democrats and have more success. A new Republican party could tackle immigration, healthcare, trade, and even a base income for all Americans. Similarly, the UK's Tony Blair ran with typically Tory interests and was remarkably successful. Unfortunately, the Labour Party returned to its old ways with Brown and Corbyn.
Our great problem is poor leadership. We had four years of Trump's incompetence and buffoonery (especially in foreign policy), followed by Biden's mediocrity and sticking us with Harris.
I invite you to read "Is Kamala Harris More than Cosmetic?" I have written many pieces on American foreign policy, particularly on China, Israel, and Ukraine.
Your article is excellent, and it is not too soon to consider the question.
Best.
