Biden's decision was made by following the easy way of popular opinion and a surrender to the Taliban previously made by Donald Trump in Doha. It did not have to be like this. Biden did not have to follow this road set by a buffoon of a President . The Afghanistan involvement (no longer a "war" -- at least to Americans) had been successfully managed into a place where loss of American life was small and the financial costs something the U.S. could afford.

There were small but significant achievements made including the placement of women in Afghanistan and the world. These gems have now been chucked and America can retreat to a cave (admittedly a large one but stll a cave from the world). The Taliban (and others possibly much worse) have now come out of theirs.

There is nothing much for America to be proud of and Joe Biden is no hero at this moment.
