Kevin, because great speaking and communication skills are key, to winning the presidency and being a successful once in office. Delivery and reassurance count.

Obama won against Hillary Clinton because he had the oratory skills. Carter lost to Reagan possibly because of his downbeat sermons and totally depressing "fire side chts". Mike Bloomberg comes to mind as a so-so speaker who was successful. But maybe New Yorkers simply wanted a good manager.

Of course there is other necessary stuff of presidents as you point out.
