Yes, many in the old industries were left out of the enormous prosperity that came in the U.S. (and world) because of the globalization. By far the majority of Americans benefitted from extending NAFTA to include Mexico. It was unfortunate that the Lewinsky distraction in Clinton's term that inclusion of many South American counties failed to take place.

The later trade with China, resulted in a huge uptick in our living standards.

Unfortunately we did not take care of the downsides but that is not a reason to return to old ways.
