Even if you are correct, it would be prudent for Democrats to take BOLD action to increase their chances. Pushing Biden out of the way is one, which is still doable but tricky.

A lesser measure, but still BOLD, is to replace Kamala Harris, a campaign passenger, with someone talented to help Biden win.
