Julio Vincent Gambuto, to me this is your best point. Yes, we immediately escalated the response to 9/11 to a war. What a mistake (we lacked the sense and disipline to treat it as a crime -- admittedly a big one). We missed the opportunity of having the world behind us in our defense. Also, that very quickly became the U.S. against Muslims that has not served us well.
