Certainly language is important to voters. Democrats tend to frame everything in terms of entitlements instead of the specifics that folk may benefit from. They constantly use the word "spending" as opposed to "investing". This reinforces the idea of Big Government tossing away other people's money.

Democrats lost influence in small and rural communities because they adopted the opinion that unless they could win in those places it wasn't worth spending time and money. This has come back to haunt them. Democrats are just as responsible for the divided nation as Republicans.
