Biden isn't going to exit voluntarily. He needs enticing, pulling, pushing, and dragging out of the way. There is momentum, but likely more is required. Biden must not be given time or respite. A Biden press conference could be tomorrow, where he could answer questions for at least an hour. The planned taped interview with Stephanopoulos won't cut it.

Admiration for him will rapidly perish as he continues to hang on. Fondness for him will turn to frustration, and should he lose the election (in all likelihood, if he manages to stay), Biden and his legacy will be well-deserved toast -- Joe and Jill will be spending their golden years with family and dogs.

Biden could still go out as a hero, but that window would rapidly close.
