John, Ukraine is fighting like hell for its own survival and is fighting for America, Europe and the democratic nations as well as the people in authoritarian ones.

It's squarely in our interests to make sure that Ukraine wins and we should be providing it with all the kit it needs to make that happen.

Are we in a war with Russia? We are certainly in a war with Putin. Putin has already conquered his own Russian population. This is a vital distinction that should not get mooshed because we want to see a strong and prosperous Russia after Putin's demise.

As tragic as the loses in Ukraine have been the wins have been breathtaking and a needed JOLT to the complacent West. We need to get out of our comfort and protect the valuable things we own -- not money and things, but the ability to have a say in our lives.

Should it be determined that the full force of NATO is required to oust Putin from every square inch of Ukraine then we should do that. The risks of inaction can suddenly outweigh the risks of action.

Many thanks. Thoughtful piece.
