John, this is a supposition.

…Newsom, the governor of California, but he has already stated that he supports Biden just the same. He is clearly not interested in running for president just yet. He will someday, but not now. The last thing Newsom wants to do at this juncture is run a losing campaign against Donald Trump and tarnish his prospects for future runs.
