John, the argument can be made that the monarchy has served Britain exceptionally well, from the Tudors who established global power to the constitutional monarchs who oversaw the expansion of trade and the UK leading the world into the Industrial Age.

The British monarchy adjusted and survived (apart from Charles I), whereas those in France, Russia, Hungary, Austria, and Germany did not—no mean feat.
